ARI to Host “Storytelling Together for Social Change” Event – Bringing in Large Crowd to Learn from Changemakers

On February 1st, 2024 the Addiction Research Institute will host their first ever “Storytelling Together for Social Change” event bringing together storytellings and changemakers from across Texas and Arizona to connect and learn from each other.

The event is a first of it’s kind. Stemming from the brain of Director Dr. Kasey Claborn who had an interest in learning from those in other fields about subjects like writing an op-ed and collaborative writing. She brought together a troop of experts including Dr. Scott Walters, Regents Professor from the University of North Health Sciences Center, Dr. Sherri Greenberg, Assistant Dean for State and Local Government Engagement; Professor of Practice; Fellow of Max Sherman Chair in State and Local Government from the UT Austin Texas LBJ School of Public Affairs and Dr. Lisa Hardy, Professor of Anthropology at NAU, Founding Director of the Social Science Community Engagement Lab, Editor-in-Chief of Practicing Anthropology from Northern Arizona University. All three speakers will present on various topics surrounding writing and storytelling.

On top of that, there will be a Panel Discussion after lunch hosted by Dr. Claborn including Dr. Phillip Schnarrs, Associate Professor of the Department of Population Health at Dell Medical School, Doug Smith, Leadership and Storytelling Trainer, Carl Hunter, Executive Director of Building Promises, Elizabeth Henry, Director of Policy at RecoveryPeople, and Leah Kaufman, Assistance Vice President of Public Policy at Shatterproof.

Lunch will be provided by the Addiction Research Institute and a networking hour will be provided at the end with zero-proof cocktails provided by UT Shift, a partner with the ARI.
